Rental Terms

All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement available at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations for the rental period. In cases of discrepancy between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.

Eligibility Criteria

Renting a vehicle requires:

  • To hire a vehicle from Car Hire Somerset, drivers must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may vary based on vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for those under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with valid identification and proof of current address. Payment information and a security deposit must also be provided, in addition to any other stipulations outlined in the Rental Agreement.

3. Reservations and Payments

  • Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Somerset location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.

Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off

  • At the time of collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, please ensure it is in the same condition as when you collected it, aside from normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. The vehicle should also be returned with the same level of fuel as it had at pickup; if it’s returned with less fuel, refueling charges will apply. Late returns may result in extra fees, so please notify us as soon as possible if you expect to be late. You are liable for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental period, along with an administration fee.

Insurance and Liability Overview

  • All car rentals in Somerset come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find full coverage specifics and excess amounts detailed in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to help lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless you have opted for additional insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.

6. Modifications and Cancellations

Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.

7. Restricted Activities

Prohibited vehicle uses:

  • The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. It is prohibited to transport hazardous materials, sublet the vehicle, or allow unauthorized individuals to drive. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used for purposes outside its intended design, exceed passenger or weight limits, or be driven outside designated geographical boundaries without prior authorization.

Breach of these terms may lead to immediate rental cancellation and fees.

8. Liability Limitations

To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Somerset will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

9. Applicable Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in these regions.

10. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Your ongoing use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
